The Bihar Police’s investigation into the suicide of actor Sushant Singh Rajput has intensified. The state police have now sent a four-member team headed by Patna City SP Vinay Tiwari to Mumbai to probe allegations against the deceased actor’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty.
The four-member team is already in Mumbai to probe the Bollywood actor’s death case after his father KK Singh lodged a police complaint in Patna on July 25, more than a month after his demise.
Sushant Singh Rajput’s family has accused Rhea Chakraborty of abetting the actor’s suicide as well as wrongful confinement of the actor, spiriting away Rs 15 crore from one of his bank accounts, and having him undergo treatment for mental illness without keeping his family informed.
IPS officer Vinay Tiwari who is posted as City SP (Central) Patna, has already reached Mumbai to lead the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case.
Speaking about the case, Tiwari said, “The [Bihar Police] team in Mumbai is doing a good job. The next step in the investigation is supervision and hence a senior official had to come so I have come. I will have a meeting with my team.”
“An FIR has been registered. We are taking statements of the stakeholders for the last one week and will take statements from one and all. The statements will be analysed and then we will arrive at a conclusion,” he added.
With Tiwari taking charge of the investigation, the Bihar Police has sent the Mumbai Police a strong message that the case is being taken seriously.
But who is IPS officer Vinay Tiwari?
Originally from Uttar Pradesh, the 2015 batch IPS officer has gained praise not only for his academic achievements but also for his creative pursuits.
Born in UP’s Lalitpur, Tiwari’s father is a farmer who toiled on fields to fund his son’s education. Interested in engineering, Tiwari shifted to Rajasthan’s Kota after completing school and managed to get admission into the prestigious IIT-BHU.

Sharing his experiences on Facebook, Tiwari wrote that while he was not initially interested in studying and only did it as a means to financial security, his compulsion soon turned into interest.
Tiwari shares that his father inspired him to try for civil services and his father also took a loan for his education. Indebted to his father, Tiwari put all his hard work into clearing the exam.
